PlayStation Vita at Toy Kingdom

You may have probably know that the PlayStation Vita; the successor to the PlayStation Portable, is out in Japan since December and America and the rest of the world will have to wait until February to get their hands on Sony’s newest portable gaming console.

But since we Filipinos gamers are very eager to get our hands on the little monster, we always find ways. And because of that, some game retailers are already selling the PS Vitas in the market, whether it’s from the black market or the legit ones.

PS Vita Datablitz

I recently saw a couple of PS Vitas last December 30, 2011 being sold at Datablitz; one of the popular gaming stores in the Philippines and a lot of people have piled up to buy their copy. The Value Pack (which contains the PS Vita, one PS Vita game, 4 GB PS Vita Memory Card, AC Adaptor, USB cable and accessory pack which contains a travel pouch, screen protector, memory card case, wrist strap and cleaning cloth) is sold at PhP 21,000 (for the WiFi only unit) and PhP 23,000 (for the 3G unit). Some PS Vita games are also available such as Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend, Uncharted: The Golden Abyss and Everybody’s Golf Vita all priced at around PhP 2,200. The Memory cards are also for sale from 4GB to 8GB (sold around PhP 1,600 above), there is also a separate Accessory Pack sold for PhP 1,700. The unit sold out a couple of hours later, I tried visiting the other branches but unfortunately, they quickly ran out of stock.

But Datablitz is not the only store that sells the PS Vita, I recently saw Toy Kingdom at the SM Megamall selling the PS Vita for PhP 24,000 for the Wifi only unit (and yes, it is indeed overpriced), but it didn’t find any PS Vita games being sold.

I tried checking some of the local online store sites and all have the similar prices, although some are pre-orders for the US version.

Some of the reason why the unit is overpriced is that these items are still hyped and new, and some people don’t care if is overpriced as long as they can get their hands on the Vita, another reason is that the shipping fee is expensive (also, the products from Japan are a bit higher compared those from the USA). Let’s all hope the price will go down once the US version of the PS Vita will be out in February.
