Ted Movie Review

What would you get if you mix the comedy of The Family Guy and a Teddy bear? Probably you might think it’s a bad combination, but the movie Ted ends up with a pretty good result.

Ted is about a story of John Bennett, a boy who wished for teddy bear friend who would be his friend for the rest of his life, and fortunately, his did come true and he had his own real talking teddy bear. Now John is 35 years old and he is still with his buddy Ted, but the problem is that Ted has become a bad influence for John, and some of their old habits during their childhood years don’t seem to fade away, which can be bad for John’s girlfriend Lori. Now John is stuck on how to maintain his long-time relationship with Lori and with his lifelong best buddy Ted.

Seth MacFarlane (the director and also the voice of Ted) really hit the sweet spot, the comedy is really good (well that is if you enjoy extremely vulgar humor) with some mix of pop-culture references, even his role Ted was really impressive, there are even cases that makes you remind of Peter Griffin (from Family Guy, which is also voiced by Seth). Mark Wahlberg‘s portrayal as John was also good, pairing up with Ted made them a dynamic duo of intense humor and at the same time, bring their inner childhood out. Another good part I noticed that they were able to animate Ted so natural (thanks to the latest technology in CGI of course) which makes him a more believable character.

The plot was a bit okay, although some parts are a bit predictable, but Seth Macfarlane still manages to create a great script (thunder buddies forever!) that gives a great result. The movie also has some notable cameos, from Sam Jones (John and Ted are fans of Flash Gordon), Norah Jones up to Patrick Steward as the narrator. If you are into Family Guy-like humor, then you should give Ted a try, and of course this is not a family friendly movie, better bring your girlfriend/boyfriend/friends instead.

And because of the vulgar humor, Ted is rated R in the Philippines, not all cinemas will show this movie, but you can get a chance to watch it at Robinsons Cinemas and Ayala Cinemas on October 3.

Ted stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane and is directed by Seth MacFarlane.
