Warm Bodies: Bringing Love to the undead

Last November of 2012, the trailer of the movie ‘Warm Bodies’ came out where the undead have eaten the human population. So what’s new? Insert the skeptical plot which shows a zombie having a major “heart-pounding” crush on a human. Not so common now right?

Fast forward to February of 2013, the movie premiered in a perfectly chosen romantic-comedy genre which brings a twist to the whole undead fad stories and whatnot. Based on an actual “Zombie romance” novel by Isaac Marion, it’s a Romeo and Juliet story that is interestingly weird, new and awesomely funny!

Meet “R”, a zombie who is not like any other. He drifts in the world of his fellow undead thinking how he died, what was his life like before the plague, what more can he do in his slow-rotting life and, well—gets hungry for human flesh from time to time. In a small invasion of humans looking for supplies, he sees a beautiful, blonde girl which takes his breath away (which is ironic because zombies do not breathe anymore). He then eats a young man who happens to be the boyfriend of that girl and consumes the memories of his life [that was]. R feels the emotions that guy had for the girl—Juliet, and saves her from the other undead by uttering the words “Keep you safe”.

While I will try to lessen the spoilers in this review, the rest of the story brings the two characters close together which starts a “cure” that might just save the whole of humanity. It has a lot of funny and “aww” scenes with an entertaining plot, truly introducing an awkward yet new perception to the zombie apocalypse we’ve always know of. Like the saying “Love is the most powerful thing” and “Love Never Dies”, this movie certainly took that to a whole new level!

Warm Bodies is certainly one of the movies you can watch this coming Valentines with or without someone because it just makes one feel like love is possible, for the living or dead (in a non-necrophilia-kind-of-way of course)! Starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddy and John Malkovich.
