Everybody will always remember the good old Mega Man games; the classic side-scrolling action game where you beat Robot Masters. It even spawned new games that became a standout from its original gameplay, but there are some lost games that tried to become far more different, so different that it became obscure. Megaman as a sports game? or how about a board game?

We take a look at some of the weird and obscure games of the Mega Man franchise

Wily & Light’s Rockboard: That’s Paradise (Wily & Light no Rockboard: That’s Paradise)

Released on 1993 in Japan for the Famicom, Rockboard is another one of those odd games from the franchise. It has that combination of Monopoly and Mario Party, up to four players can join in the game, you can select Dr. Wily, Dr. Light, Dr. Cossack, Roll or Kalinka as your character. The game never got a Western release

Mega Man: The Power Battle (Rockman: The Power Battle)

Released in the arcades in Japan on 1995 then followed a sequel the following year, then both games were ported to the Neo Geo Pocket Color in 2000. Power Battle can be played with 2 players, the gameplay is somewhat similar to the original Mega Man gameplay, except that instead of navigating through the level, you will be immediately fighting against the end-level boss.

Mega Man Soccer (Rockman’s Soccer)

Released on 1994 for the Super Nintendo, instead of fighting the Robot Masters with your trusty Mega Buster, you’ll be fighting  against them through soccer (or also known as football to the majority). Mega  Man Soccer features exhibition, tournament and league matches, you can even select. The game was even ranked number four on GamePro’s 10 Weirdest Sports Games.

Super Adventure Rockman

Available in Japan for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1998, Super Adventure tried a different approach to the series through the use of first person perspective and utilizing full motion videos (FMVs) that you normally see on games from the Sega CD and 3DO. This is the game in the Mega Man series where a lot of characters die, heck even the whole world got destroyed, and Super Adventure was even targeted for the younger audience, Keiji Inafune even quoted “Did they really need to go that far?”

Mega Man Battle & Chase (Rockman Battle & Chase)

This was release on 1997 in Japan and 1998 in Europe, Battle & Chase is Capcom’s version of Nintendo’s Mario Kart. The game was not release to America as Sony Computer Entertainment did not approve its release due to the large number of mascot-theme racing games in the market. Battle & Chase had some mixed reactions to the community as some claimed that it was a total rip-off to Mario Kart while some stated that despite the dated graphics, the gameplay was entertaining. This was soon ported to the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the PlayStation 2 and Gamecube.

Mega Man X Command Mission (Rockman X Command Mission)

The game was launch on 2004 for the PlayStation 2 and Gamecube, Command Mission is set on the Mega Man X world, but instead of the traditional sides-crolling action, the game focused more on turned based RPG battle system. The game was developed by the same team who created the Breath of Fire series.
