And just like that, Nintendo just revealed their latest model of the 3DS and 3DS XL.

Dubbed as the ‘New 3DS’ and ‘New 3DS XL’ , the third 3DS model will be slightly larger from their old counterparts and surprisingly it will  feature a C Stick; a second mini analog pad, a hurrah for most 3DS gamers. The C Stick will be located on the upper left portion of the face buttons. Finally Nintendo decided to add this feature as some games, such as Resident Evil Revelations and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate are played better with a second analog pad (which uses a Circle Pad Pro accessory to remedy this problem). The ZL and ZR buttons are now added to the unit, which were originally available only to the Circle Pad Pro accessory.

The new model now has a faster CPU for a much faster download and improved processing power when browsing, this also leads Nintendo to release new games that are only exclusive to the New 3DS due to its improved CPU, the first exclusive game announced was Xenoblade Chronicles. Battery life was also improvedable to have a battery life of 3.5 to 6 hours for the New 3DS and 3.5 to 7 hours for the New 3DS XL.

There are some changes in the arrangement of some components, especially with the game cart slot as it is now placed below of the lower portion of the New 3DS while the audio jack port and the stylus stick is now placed below the middle, the same goes with the power button as it is now on the lower right portion. The New 3DS now omitting the old SD card in favor of the Mirco SD. For players who like to customize their 3DS, the smaller New 3DS will feature swap-able front and back faceplates, and to match the themed faceplaces, the 3DS software will be updated to feature themes on the system, including customized system music.

Another great feature is the newly improved 3D view, unlike in the older 3DS version where you need to the sweet spot angle to view the 3D image properly, the New 3DS will let player to view the 3D effect in any angle thanks to the unit’s front camera and gyroscope where it detects the player’s face and tracks it. Another addition on the screen is the ability to automatically adjust the brightness depending on the lighting in the surrounding, which is pretty neat as it can help save battery life. The NFC reader is now installed at the bottom of the screen where accessories like the Amiibo toys can be used on the unit.

The New 3DS and New 3DS XL will be available in Japan in October 11 this year for 16,000 yen (around $154) and the XL for 18,800 yen (around $180), no news yet for a Western release
