Looking at the Strix Claw, it is a bit shorter compared to some of ASUS’ line of gaming mouse (especially the ROG Gladius). Like its name, its curved edges definitely has a claw-like appearance, making it comfortable for players who are used to claw grip methods when handling a mouse yet unfortunately, the design is not ambidextrous. And as with the rest of the Strix line-up, it featured a matte black and grey color scheme along with the orange glowing owl eyes logo. Though the design and material is not that impressive for its price tag, as it may looked similar to those cheap less-than-PhP600 gaming mice, ASUS could have added more effort on the design department.

The Claw still has the essential buttons such as the left and right mouse button, the mouse scroll and also doubles as the middle button and two buttons on the middle portion for quick dpi switching, it also includes two additional buttons on the left side (it’s initially set as back and forward inputs) and a third button where ASUS dubbed it as the Sniper button, what it does is that when you press the Sniper Button, the mouse’s dpi will change and will return to its original dpi setting when you release the Sniper button. This is a great feature for FPS players who needed precise aiming during a crucial match, even outside of gaming, this is even useful for graphic artists for their graphic works, and the Sniper button is pretty much the best highlight for the Claw.

There are not much fancy lights on the Claw aside from the glowing logo and dpi setting indicator which is found near the left mouse button. There are no fancy accessories included in the package, just the gaming mouse, an installation CD and some manuals. The Strix Claw does not require any other drivers upon plugging it to any PC or laptop, but its included installation CD includes the Strix driver to fully optimize its main features. The software allows you to customize the Strix Claw, from setting user profiles, re-mapping buttons, programming macros and linking programs to specific profiles. Those who are fans of customized LED option will be disappointed as the Claw has limited options, it only offers an on/off option for the lights. Its cable is braided for better protection on the cable from wear and tear, the cable’s end is also angled to prevent it from snagging on the surface.

Handling the Claw as we mentioned, is very comfortable for claw-grip gamers, but even players with a different gripping style won’t be having problems using the gaming mouse, its ergonomic design ensures that your hands will fit well on the mouse and it won’t give you strain even for prolonged hours. The ridges on the front mouse buttons makes it as a resting place for your fingers when gripping at the mouse, the button placement on the left side is on easy reach which shouldn’t be straining your thumb when reaching for the buttons. The Omron switches gives you more clicks thanks to its durable build and it provides smoother button presses.

As for performance, the Claw’s sensitivity can go only up to 5000 dpi, which is lower compared to other high-end gaming mice, but despite having only having 5000 dpi, the Pixart PMW 3310 optical sensor provides great accuracy, with great precision with no angle snapping and 1:1 tracking ratio. We tested some FPS games (Battlefield 4 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel) and the Claw never failed to impress us in providing accurate control.

Simply put, the Strix Claw may not be the most attractive gaming mouse, but its performance makes up for it. A great gaming mouse for gamers who are into First Person Shooters thanks to the Sniper button feature and the Pixart PMW 3310 optical sensor for real 1:1 accuracy. But if you are into gaming mice that are stylish and customizable lights, then this mouse might not a suitable choice for you.
