This is one of the main concerns for the upcoming MMO shooter from Blizzard.

Overwatch is still on its closed beta phase and it had undergo a series of updates that added new content and game modes, as well as some tweaks in the game (which we will soon discuss it in the coming days), but the game will not be a PC exclusive, as there will be console releases for the upcoming open beta and retail launch in May. So the biggest concern is if the current generation of consoles can handle Overwatch the same way it can run on the PC.

But luckily Digital Foundry managed to have a sneak peek of the console version of Overwatch and tested the game for its performance. In their recent video upload, they shared gameplay footage of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game and judging from the footage the consoles can handle the game in higher resolution and in 60 frames per second, which is essential for any competitive games, such as in shooters. Though they mentioned that there are rare occasions that there screen tearing on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 only experienced a single screen tear during their initial playtest. It also shows a short instance of frame drop to around 55 fps and managed to return to full 60 fps in a matter of seconds. In short, both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can play Overwatch very smooth at 60 frames per second

The test result is still a work in progress according to the guys at Digital Foundry but it still brings good news for console users who are worried that the console port will have significant drop in terms of game performance. Looks like Blizzard managed to code the game to be fully playable in the console versions. We will try to test out the console version during the beta test in May to see for any differences in performance and experience in comparison to the PC version.

Overwatch will be available for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 24.
