One of these is the external hard drive support, this means anyone can now use an external hard disk drive to extra storage for their games. Just plug your external drive with a USB 3.0 cable and you can download and install games directly to the external drive, and you can plug any latest external HDD with a maximum of 8 TB of storage. Just take note that game saves will still be stored on the PS4’s internal memory.

Another new feature is creating custom wallpapers by using in-game screenshots. You can even adjust the menu interface so it can blend on the wallpaper especially if the image is very bright. You can also use the Photo mode in Sharefactory to capture screenshots and use it as a wallpaper.

Some other features include another update on the Quick Menu which will include a shortcut for the Party feature, a streamlined Notification List that put all categories into one simplified list, the ability to post status updates directly to the Activity Feed and 3D Blu-Ray support for the PlayStation VR. Sony has hinted that there are more new updates to be added on the upcoming version.

No release date for version 4.50 has been revealed, but those who signed up for a beta test should be receiving an invite email right now for instructions on how to access the beta version.
