Overwatch is now a year old, and we list out some of the best seasonal events in the game.

It has been a year after Blizzard’s newest game IP has launched, Overwatch became a phenomenal hit around the world, with over 30 million active players competing against each other and pushing the payload. There have been a series of seasonal events that adds special content to the game that matches to the current season, and some of them are so great that we wished they would stay there as a permanent custom brawl, but good thing the skins and other cosmetic items will stay in your account for good if you managed to acquire them.

So we listed down all of the five Overwatch seasonal events from the game’s first year and ranked each of them from the least favorite to the best.

#5 Summer Games (August 2 – 22, 2016)

As a part of celebrating the Summer Olympics, this special event featured a lot of themed cosmetics that showcased the representing countries in the Olympics, all of the skins are based on the representing country flags of each heroes. It also introduces the first event exclusive Brawl called Lúcioball; where each team of two Lucio players must score by hitting the giant ball to the goal, this was played in an event exclusive map called Estádio das Rãs which was based on Brazil; the host of the 2016 Summer Olympics. The new Brawl was an entire new experience and a sort of breather from the usual matches, Lúcioball reminds us more of Rocket League and why it was a fun pastime, the exclusive Brawl was fun even if you aren’t into football and you only need one partner to participate which is easy to find a match. We placed this at No. 5 as the cosmetics were not as really that memorable and the Brawl gets tiresome after several matches since you are limited to two players.

Favorite Skin: McCree’s American skin

Favorite Emote: Symmetra’s Ribbon

Favorite Highlight Intro: Junkrat’s Shotput

#4 Winter Wonderland (December 13, 2016 – January 2, 2017)

Featuring a Christmas themed event, Winter Wonderland is all about, you guess it, winter. Most of the maps were re-skinned to feature snow and Christmas decors, while the cosmetics had its fair share of Winter-themed designs, some of them really match with the characters’ appearance (some examples like Torbjörn and Winston). Its event exclusive Brawl was Mei’s Snowball Offensive; where a team of six will all be playing as Mei and must defeat the other team by hitting them with snowballs. The idea of the Snowball Offensive was fun, playing the actual match was frustrating as you can only shoot once and you need to reload by going to a pile of snow which can take a while before you can replenish your ammo. Mei’s two primary skills are usable to add more strategy for offense and defense, but the difficulty makes it unappealing to play even from the start. However Winter Wonderland gets the #4 spot as Mei’s Snowball Offensive was not much of a fun Brawl, but what makes up for the event were the cool (no pun intended) Winter-themed skins and funny emotes that you will still use even when Christmas is already over.

Favorite Skin: Torbjörn’s Santaclad

Favorite Emote: Zarya’s Mystery Gift

Favorite Highlight Intro: Widowmaker’s Under the Mistletoe

#3 Year of the Rooster (January 24 – February 13, 2017)

A special event to celebrate the Lunar New Year and marking of the Year of the Rooster in the Lunar calendar, everything in this event are based on Chinese culture (and also a hint of Korean); from skins (they also got Journey to the West-inspired skins) up to the re-skinned maps, you can even ignite the firecrackers on the floor with your weapon and marvel at the fireworks display exploding to the skies. This also features a new Brawl called Capture the Rooster in the modified LiJiang Tower where it basically a Capture the Flag game mode; you must infiltrate the enemy territory and capture the enemy flag and bring it to your base alive, but be wary as the opposing team will also do the same to you. The new Brawl was a fun game but can get frustrating if a team was not well-balanced for the match, as some heroes have an unfair advantage to this game mode. Eventually this was added as one of the Brawls in Arcade mode. This is on our #3 as it may have some great cosmetics, but the Capture the Rooster Brawl as a mixed bag as some enjoy it while others just ignore the Brawl entirely as some heroes can give some major advantage.

Favorite Skin: D.va’s Palanquin

Favorite Emote: Mei’s So Excited

Favorite Highlight Intro: Tracer’s Lion Dance

#2 Uprising (April 11 to May 2, 2017)

The first seasonal event that is canon to the game’s lore, Uprising retells the early years of Overwatch, where Tracer also had her first mission as a full pledged Overwatch agent. Their mission was to defeat the Onmic terrorist group called Null Sector as they have infiltrated King’s Row in London. This is the second event that focuses more on Co-Op, here you will be heading to objective areas while fending off against renegade Omnics, as you progress midway, you will be escorting a payload and finally eliminating key enemies to complete the mission. The mission requires 4 players in a team but unlike in Junkenstein’s Revenge, you can either play the Uprising Brawl in All Heroes mode or in Normal mode where you can only pick Tracer, Torbjörn, Reinhardt or Mercy. The event also featured a series of cosmetics that are based on the Blackwatch and Strike Force teams. Uprising landed on our #2 as it provided one of the best event exclusive Brawls, it adds a whole new PvE experience while providing a lot of backstory to the characters. We hope Blizzard will release of this kind of lore-based events.

Favorite Skin: Genji’s Blackwatch

Favorite Emote: Soldier: 76’s Push-Ups

Favorite Highlight Intro: D.Va’s Selfie

#1 Halloween Terror (October 11 – November 1, 2016)

A special event to celebrate Halloween, Halloween Terror features a ton of cosmetics that fit with the theme, this also introduces the first PvE-based Brawl called Junkenstein’s Revenge. In this Brawl, you must defend your base and eliminate all incoming Zomnics that are rushing to destroy the massive door that you are protecting, at the end of each wave, a boss will spawn and attack you ranging from a Halloween themed Reaper, Mercy, Roadhog and Junkrat. You form a four-man team for this Brawl and you will be locked to certain heroes; McCree, Ana, Hanzo and Soldier: 76. Locking the Brawl to just a select number of heroes adds a new depth of strategy as players will have to work together and master the heroes’ play style. Halloween Terror was rated in our list as #1 as it both feature some of the best skins (I’m pretty sure a lot of the players own a Witch Mercy skin) and an addictive PvE Brawl, Junkenstein’s Revenge is more of a homage to the classic Horde mode.

Favorite Skin: Mercy’s Witch

Favorite Emote: Ana’s Candy

Favorite Highlight Intro: Reaper’s Eternal Rest

Overwatch will be celebrating its One Year Anniversary this week and expect a new in-game event with some cool skins and emotes to collect.
