Slim, lightweight, and a total beast.

Early this week at COMPUTEX Taipei 2017, ASUS and their gaming sub-brand Republic of Gamers unveiled a new addition to their 10-series GPU powered laptops, the ROG GX501VI otherwise known as the Zephyrus.

The Zephyrus is ASUS new addition to their ROG notebook line sporting a 15.6 inch G-sync panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and runs using an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 24GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 1080 GPU which now utilizes NVIDIA’s new Max-Q design specifics catered towards ultra-thin notebooks. Now in case you’re not familiar with Max-Q yet, it’s NVIDIA’s new design standard implementation for 18-mm notebooks which hopes to deliver relatively better performance while operating at noise levels below 40db.

But how does the Zephyrus manage it? Well for one NVIDIA’s Max-Q design does not only concern the GPU but a major part of a laptop’s innards as well such as the cooling system and Zephyrus internal monitoring helps keep the noise levels below 40db mainly by managing fan speeds and as well as utilizing ASUS new ” Active Aerodynamic System” which, at a glance, involves putting more air vents around the notebook.

Based on this concept design, the Zephyrus seems to have a flap at its rear ends which opens up once you unfold the laptop, allowing more air to circulate in and out as part of its Thermal Solution

Albeit the Zephyrus did come with an i7-7700 HQ and 24GB of RAM, there are no official specifications listed for the device yet for its consumer version, although we should be expecting anytime soon once ASUS ROG launches the product this coming May 26, 2017.

In the meantime, aside from the CPU and the GPU, here are the other specifications, based on the product sample that was shown on COMPUTEX, that we can expect from the Zephyrus once it becomes available:

  • Max 1080p resolution, but can reach 4K via external monitor.
  • Fully Backlit RGB Keyboard
  • HDMI 2.0 display port
  • USB Type C port
  • M.2 PCI Ports
