We’re celebrating 5 years of PlayStation 4 beybeh!

Sony’s frontliner for the 8th Generation console wars, the PlayStation 4 has recently celebrated its 5th year anniversary from its first launch back in November or 2013. Home to nearly 2,000 video game titles, the PlayStation 4 is currently the most celebrated platform, although not without its up and downs, with over 80 Million units sold worldwide.

Now of course, exclusives have become the life and blood of video game consoles all throughout their existence, with games that continuously push boundaries and ideas that break through limitations giving us gamers a very broad choice of platforms to pick from, and over the past few years, Sony, with their PlayStation 4 has been keeping a very steady lead over everyone else with great exclusives from various gaming genres.

Having churned out a lot of game reviews for the PlayStation 4 platform ourselves, we at the Reimaru Files have our own bias towards which titles we think are the best BEST PS4 EXCLUSIVES, and after much bloody debate, here are our picks for this Top 5.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Naughty Dog

One of the first PlayStation 4 exclusives, Uncharted 4 is what we like to call a “perfect video game adaptation of a movie that never really existed” with how it handles its storytelling. Detailing the conclusion of the glorious adventures of Nathan Drake, Uncharted 4, and we are one with the critics on this, has received and is continuously receiving a lot of much deserved praise, with the game showcasing the true capabilities of the console early on, and how it redefined the Action-adventure genre for the modern age.

Marve’s Spider-Man
Insomniac

Insomniac games might not have the best history as a developer but they definitely showed a lot of people why they are one of the best in the business with their first licensed title Spider-Man. Based, of course, on the friendly neighborhood web crawler, Spider-Man is one of the latest games to arrive to the platform, and is proving to be a hit with its technical take on combat, great narrative, and of course, the smooth, smooth web swinging, because hey, it really makes you FEEL like Spider-Man.

Bloodborne
FromSoftware

Difficulty in video games will always be the subject of many debates but if you’ve picked up Bloodborne, you know that the argument about video game difficulty is non-existent. The game really gives the feeling of playing Dark Souls and is perhaps the “perfect Soulslike” title the game taking what’s best about the Souls series and adding its own spice. Brutal enemies, a deep story, crazy weapons and weapon mechanics, it’s almost as if the game wants you to feel like you’re playing Dark Souls. Maybe because the game itself is Dark Souls, it just isn’t called Dark Souls.

Horizon: Zero Dawn
Guerrilla Games

Horizon: Zero Dawn is sorta what you get when you cross something like the new Tomb Raider with Monster Hunter only that the monsters are mechanized dinosaurs that you can control to make them fight each other. A consistent experience all throughout but also with its own unique surprises, Horizon Zero: Dawn offers a good balance between narrative and adventure with its unique world, and character development. We still don’t know how to properly pronounce Aloy though, is it Aloy or Aloy?

God of War 4
Santa Monica Studio

The God of War franchise has always been a staple for consoles ever since its first title release back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2 with its good ol’ Hack and Slash combat, and a creative , yet somewhat familiar take on the tale of Greek Mythology. Originally featuring a man that is too angry to die in what seemed to be a neverending quest to take down the Olympian pantheon, God of War 4 introduces us to the more human side of Kratos as he tries to become the father that he should be to his demigod son, Atreus. While it still shows off some of the bloody combat mechanics ever since the first God of War, God of War 4 is more of a coming of age father and son story, really developing the characters of both of our leads while at the same time setting up a whole new chapter for the God of War franchise.
