Compared to the GeForce GTX 765M from the first GS70 Stealth laptop, the GS70 Stealth Pro was upgraded with a high-end GeForce GTX 870M card for the pure gaming experience. We tested a couple of games and conducted several benchmarks (such as 3DMark, Unigine Heaven and the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Benchmark Tool) and it provided great results. We played some high-end games such as Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings and it can run at around 35-40 FPS on 1080p resolution while after a test run and some adjustments on the Ultra settings with Dragon Age Inquisition, we were able to run it on 40-45 FPS in some areas in the game and can reach up to 60 FPS in dungeon areas. Some mid-end games such as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Sacred 3 can maintain an average framerate of 50-60 even on taxing areas that required tremendous amount of processing power, while older games such as Ultra Street Fighter IV and The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim can maintain at 60 FPS.
Another great highlight is the fast loading speed, with the use of two Solid State Drives in a Raid 2 connection, it can load the Windows 8.1 OS in less than 10 seconds. It also included a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive for storage purposes, giving you enough space to install any games and store a couple of videos and music. Thanks to its whooping 16GB RAM and an Intel Haswell i7 CPU , running multiple applications simultaneously is just a piece of cake for the Stealth Pro which gives you a breeze in multitasking. We made a stress test by letting the gaming laptop install a game while downloading a new game on the Steam client and playing Skyrim and listening to Spotify, all at the same time with the occasional web browsing. With this kind of powerhouse, it can run and switch to other applications without any delays.
The major problem with the Stealth Pro is the heating issue, when running any application that required a large amount of processing power both in the CPU and graphic card for an extended period of time, the heat can reach up to 70 to 85 degrees Celsius. Since the body is made of aluminum, this is much noticeable on the speaker grille portion of the laptop and could reach up to the portion of the keyboard (around the QWER and UIOP layout portion), and this can uncomfortable to the users, though this can be remedied by using an separate keyboard and mouse, although being a portable gaming setup would become pointless. With external fans dissipating the heat from the two air vents found on each side of the laptop, the loud fan noise can be a turn-off to some, as it defeats the purpose of being called ‘Stealth Pro’, one good solution is just use a headphone while watching or playing. The heating issue quickly dissipates after a few minutes after using any heavy application which is a plus for the gaming laptop.
In terms of battery life, the Stealth Pro can last up to 4 and a half hours when only used for surfing the internet or watching streaming videos with the brightness on an average setting while using the wireless network for internet connection, it can play games for 2 hours until the batteries go dry.
