Phantasy Star Online 2 will be getting an anime adaptation

The hit Japanese MMORPG is getting its own anime series.

It has been announced that Sega will be releasing a Phantasy Star Online 2 anime adaptation and is planned to premiere in 2016, the announcement was made during an ARCS Caravan event in Okinawa, Japan. (credits to Anime News Network for the info) The website for the said project has become available as well.

The series will feature an original story and will set on planet Earth, no info yet on who will direct the series as well as the character designer and series writer. The anime series will be a part of the 15th anniversary celebration of the Phantasy Star series, which debuted on the Sega Master System in 1987 and the recent released games of the series are Phantasy Star Online 2 for the PC (only Southeast Asia has the English version of the game) and the Japan-only PlayStation Vita Phantasy Star Nova

One of the projects of the 15th anniversary also includes the theatrical play called Phantasy Star Online 2 -On Stage- which was performed last December 4 to 7, 2014 at Aoyama Theater in Japan.
