The Sonic the Hedgehog Film Series Reaching the One-Billion-Dollar Box Office Milestone

Sega is thrilled to announce that the Sonic the Hedgehog film series, produced by SEGA of America, Inc. and Paramount Pictures Corporation, grossed over $1B (¥157B) in the global box office.

Released in February 2020 and April 2022, respectively, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earned a combined $725.2M globally and generated $181M in consumer spending from home entertainment rentals and purchases. Last April, the spinoff series Knuckles debuted on Paramount +, earning a total viewing time of over 11M hours globally in its first 28 days of streaming, making it the #1 Kids & Family series ever in terms of hours.

 

On December 20, 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released theatrically in America with an “A” CinemaScore, a franchise-best Certified Fresh 86% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, and a franchise-best 96% Verified Hot Popcornmeter score. In this latest title, Sonic and his friends head to Tokyo, where they encounter Shadow, a mysterious new foe whose powers push the series’ speed and scope to the next level. The film is now in theaters across most of Southeast Asia and will release in the Philippines on January 15th.
