After the successful campaign for the World Cyber Games 2012 in Kunshan China, the Philippine cyber athletes sets it sights at the (just recently concluded) The Games Expo (TGX) Malaysia for Dota 2: The Asia 2012 and Asian Cyber Games (ACG) 2012 Championship for Counterstrike: Global Offensive (CSGO) competition in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Both events are happening on the same venue which is the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) but in different halls. The Philippines is represented by Team Pagibig.tnc in Dota 2 and Team DC Smackdown in CSGO after being crowned Philippine champions in the Pinoy Gaming Festival (PGF) 2012 Grand Finals event on Oct. 27-28, 2012 at the SMX Hall 3 Convention Center .

The Philippines managed to hit big as DC Smackdown is the grand champion in the ACG 2012 CSGO Championship. The competition is comprised of 7 countries (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam). The DC Smackdown beat heavily favored Orange Esports of Malaysia twice in the grand finals (Team Orange beat DC Smackdown in the winner bracket finals thats why they have a twice to beat advantage coming in the grand finals).

As champions of the tournament the team won the following prizes:

  • Giant 3000 USD champion check
  • 5 Gold Medals for each member
  • CSGO champion trophy and the recognition of being the best team in this event
For Dota 2 competition, Team Pagibig.tnc bounced back from a 0-2 record and beat Team Orange Esports of Malaysia and Team Zenith of Singapore forcing a three way tie for the second spot in Group B (Team MiTH.Trust of Thailand took the top spot in Group B). Pagibig.tnc tried its best to replicate its winning formula against both teams but unfortunately, they lost their two games in the tie breaker match and eventually leaves Orange Esports to take the second spot in the group stage. Nonetheless, it was a valiant effort coming into this competition and forcing Zenith to be eliminated in the tournament and Orange Esports to rethink their strategy as both teams were heavily considered to go into the next round.
Both teams will have an automatic berth in next year’s ACG 2013 qualifying (in case RapturePH will be given the right to organize the ACG PH qualifiers)  and will move directly in the Philippine National Finals which will happen in the PGF 2013 Grand Finals.
Congratulations to the two teams and also to RapturePH for making it possible for these teams to participate in the tournament.
