If you are looking for a tower defense game in your mobile phone, you should check out the newest game from Smart, Lord of The Rings Middle-earth Defense.
The game stays faithful to the trilogy as most of the game’s battles take place from the famous locations from the three books such as the Mines of Moria, Helm’s Deep and also at Mina Tirith.

Lord of The Rings Middle-earth Defense gameplay is quite similar that from a typical tower defense game: you must protect your area by placing units (instead of towers) in certain areas in a maze-like road in order to repel any incoming wave of enemies, if one enemy managed to pass through your defenses, you lose a life, if your life is completely depleted, the game is over.
The game requires you to use strategy by placing the right units to the right location to ensure that no enemies will pass through your defenses, and the longer you defend you base, the harder the enemies will become in every wave.
It is rather interesting to see they used characters and units from the book/movie. From the elven archers to the soldier of Gondor to the Riders of Rohan etc., each units represent different roles, for example the Gondor soldiers approaches and attacks any incoming enemies within their range while the archers can attack the enemies from afar as long as they are within range. You can also add special hero units to your defense, these units are more powerful from the regular unit but require a lot of gold to be purchased, special heroes include favorites like Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf.
You can also add structure such as barricades and tiles to block any incoming enemies or slow their movements; this gives a whole new strategy to your game.
Lord of The Rings Middle-earth Defense has two game modes; one is the tutorial where it explains the basic controls and gameplay, players new to the tower defense game should check this first. The other mode is the story mode where you start your campaign in the Mines of Moria.
One minor problem in this game however is that there is no difficulty selection, the game’s difficulty will give newcomers to this kind of genre a hard time to finish a level, even on the first level of the game.
But aside from the lack of difficulty adjustment, the game is still good; the graphics is great even the 2D sprites are detailed when played in most of the latest cell phone models. Animation is quite smooth even when there a lot of units that are shown on screen.
Overall Lord of The Rings Middle-earth Defense is one of those tower defense games that you will surely enjoy for quite some time, despite the difficulty control issue; the game is still playable even for newbies.
