Gaming Overload 2012 Event Aftermath

A one of a kind gaming tournament was held at VMall, Greenhills Commercial Center last July 13 and 14, when I mean one of a kind meaning not those common gaming tournaments which only focus on Starcraft 2 and DoTA.

Gaming Overload, which was organized by tech-lifestyle magazine Gadgets Magazine, Fighting game community Team X-Over and Ubertech, one of the premiere distributors of gaming hardware such as Roccat, Sapphire and Cougar decided to bring us a action-packed PC gaming tournament in the metro.

The 2-day event composed of three gaming tournaments; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for the FPS, NBA 2k12 for sports and Street Fighter X Tekken for fighting games. Day 1 was focused for the CoD:MW 3 tournament, unfortunately I was only available at Day 2 which held the NBA 2k12 and SF X Tekken tourney.

I registered for the SF X Tekken tournament through the email registration, along with me  who registered was Billy of Back2Gaming, who is a fighting game fan. The SF x Tekken tournament started around in the afternoon, we saw some people from the Pinoy 2D Fighters community participating on the said tournament, some even brought their arcade sticks (meaning they are really serious with the competition). The tournament was a double round elimination, meaning you have a second chance on winning the tournament before you can get eliminated.

Unfortunately, I was eliminated at the quarterfinals (since I really do suck at fighting games), but I had a great time competing in a fighting game tournament, I even had a chat with some of the players during and after the match. The winners of the tournaments brought home a gaming motherboard from Gigabyte, a laptop bag and a couple of original PC games, those who participated were given free copies of Gadgets Magazine and some free Winzip retail codes.

The tournament was really intense and fun, kudos to the organizers and also to the Pinoy 2D Fighters community for making the event a success. We hope to see more gaming events like these that will encourage PC and console gamers to participate and have fun. You check some of the pictures of the event in our gallery.

*UPDATE*

We’ve added the video of the coverage, sit back and enjoy the video 😉
