Fans of Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Effie Trinket and other characters from the best selling book Hunger Games gathered to witness the ‘Catch the Hunger Games Fever’ yesterday, August 25, 2012 at the SM Megamall Events Center.

Organized by C-Interactive together with partners Astroplus, Pioneer Electrics, Gameclub and more, they brought a small but interesting event to promote and sell the Hunger Games movie now available in DVD and Blu-Ray copies. The movie which showed last March 2012 in the Philippines, stars Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone, X-Men First Class), Josh Hutcherson (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, Journey to the Center of the Earth: 1&2), Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song; Expendables 2) and other famous actors to complete the novel’s main characters.

The novel-turned-movie is a story about the annual selection of “tributes” done by the 12 Districts of the new North Americawhere the chosen boy and girl of each district are forced to fight in deadly game of survival while being shown on live television, thus called the Hunger Games. This is just the first in the series of trilogy written by Suzanne Collins (2nd book: Catching Fire, 3rd book: Mockingjay).

An estimated 300 people witnessed the main event such as “Scavenger Hunt” (where 6 pairs did several mini-tasks where the winning pair wins P3,000 each) and “Best Dressed Hunger Games Character Contest” (participants did dressed up as their favorite or chosen HG character and one winner wins P5,000). Other side events included “Target Shooting” (testing one’s archery accuracy using plastic bows and arrows on a wall); a photo-op with the official Katniss Everdeen cosplayer of the event.

Guess who is the official Katniss Everdeen model here?

Yours truly was part of the Cosplay event as Katniss ‘the squirrel hunter” (see girl in brown leather jacket above) but was unfortunately unable to bring home the bacon *boohoo*. But all was well and fun, all for the love of the Hunger Games novel and movie!

More activities followed that kept the fans excited to get the chance to win HG merchandise (shirts, ID laces, keychains, mocking jay pins, etc.) and other freebies that were raffled off by the other sponsors. Organizers of the event hope for more similar launches to happen in the near future to showcase other blockbuster movies and or labels.
