Sony has once again made a big splash at the E3 Press Conference and here are what they presented.
The Sony Press Conference is been known to be very long, but it leaves the audience a ton of surprises. For this year it kicks off tons of first-party games, content exclusives plus a lot of Free to Play and Indie games.
The press con opened up with a trailer of Destiny, and the beta will be available on the PlayStation on July 17. You can get the chance to try the alpha test of the game by registering this week and will last for the whole weekend. Then at the same time they announced the white version of the PlayStation 4, which will be bundled with a copy of Destiny, it will be available on September 9. PlayStation users will also get exclusive content for Destiny.
Next was a demo for The Order: 1886, the game will also feature quicktime events, next trailer was Entwined, a twin-stick action game developed by Pixel Opus, a team of graduates from Carnegie Mellon University, the game is now available on the PS4 and Vita for $9.99.
There is also a new standalone DLC for inFamous: Second Son, it will be a prequel to the game and it will be entitled inFamous: First Light where you will be taking control as Fetch. It will be available on August. Little Big Planet 3 is also be arriving to the PlayStation 4 and Sackboy isn’t alone anymore, he will be joined by new characters such as Toggle where he can enlarge himself or shrink, then there’s Swoop, who can carry you to reach higher grounds, there is also Oddstock. LBP3 will be out on November, plus you will be able to play all the user created stages from the previous games on LBP3.
The much anticipated Project Beast, which is a collaboration with Sony and From software, was finally unveiled, the game is now called Bloodborne. The game is set in an Victorian-era world and it will be released on 2015.
A new gameplay video of Farcry 4 was presented, it featured grappling hooks and wingsuits game mechanics, we also get to see a co-op feature in the game. One exclusive feature for the PlayStation is that you can invite friends for a co-op session on Farcry 4, even if they don’t own the game.
A lot of sequels were also announced, Magicka 2 will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Disney Infinity will feature Marvel Heroes content with the Avengers being in the first wave, Dead Island 2 was also announced with an exclusive class for PlayStation gamers. Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition will feature The Last of Us’ Infected creatures as an exclusive. Battlefield: Hardline was also presented with some gameplay footage, it also features grappling hooks, this could be the ‘in’ for first person shooters.
Sony also made a surprise announcement, Tim Schafer’s Grim Fandango will be remastered and will be released for the PS4 and Vita, and the crowd roared.
Lots of indie games were being showcased and will be available for the PlayStation, these include Broforce, Hotline Miami 2, Titan Souls, Not a Hero and The Talos Principle. This is a good sign for the indie developers as they are given the spotlight on the consoles.
Suda51 will be releasing a new game and it is called Let It Die, it will be available on 2015 and as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Former Journey Art Director along with game developer Giant Squid, will be revealing their game called ABZU. Then there’s this trailer for No Man’s Sky, the game lets you explore the space and discover different planets, but that’s not all, you can visit this planets and explore its inhabitants and discover new species, and you can jump back to your starship and fly back to space.
Sony also have mentioned about their Project Morpheus and E3 attendees can try out the VR headset, Youtube will have an easier upload function on the PS4, by just pressing the share button, you can now upload your recorded gameplay sessions much easier. Sony also boasted that 95% of PS4 consoles are now connected to the PSN, in which they are proud to announce of more than 25 Free to play games that will be available on the console within a year. Then at the same time, they announced that the game streaming service PlayStation Now will be on beta on July 31, more than 100 games will be available on the service.
The highlight is now on the PlayStation Vita, with more upcoming games this year from the likes of Child of Light, Minecraft, Tales from the Borderlands and Tales of Hearts R, plus 100 more in development. The Vita TV was also revealed and will be available to the Western market in early 2015. The unit will be sold for $99 while the bundle will be sold for $139 which include the Vita Tv, Dual Shock 3 controller, HDMI cable, 8GB card and a digital copy of Lego: The Movie game.
Mortal Kombat X was featured with real gameplay footage, it featured two new characters plus the return of the X-ray cam. No release date was announced.
Aside from games, Sony revealed one of their newest show; Powers, which is created by Brian Michael Bendis. Another show to watch out for is the theatrical release of Ratchet and Clank the Movie which will be out on 2015 along with the HD remaster of the Ratchet and Clank trilogy games.
Another batch of games were showcased on the press conference, The Last of Us Remastered will be available on July 29, a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was shown and GTA V will be available on the PS4. A new gameplay footage for Batman: Arkham Knight featuring a transforming Batmobile into a side-stepping Bat-tank. Also exclusive Scarecrow Nightmare mission when you purchased the PS4 version of the game.
And finally at the closing of the event was the trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
We are really stoked at the current lineup by Sony, though there are some no-show games (The Last Guardian being the obvious again and some of Square Enix’s heavy hitters like Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3), 2015 might be the best year for gamers to buy the PlayStation 4.
