Well, sadly it’s not, while we’ve been waiting for any announcement regarding the number 3 from Valve at GDC 2015, an announcement concerning the number 2 was made instead, joining in the UE4 and Unity 5 open source extravaganza, Valve releases Source 2 for free to content developers. Gabe Newell, co founder of Valve and considered as one of the pioneer names in PC gaming, sates that the reason as to why Source 2 became opensource is to emphasize on creator productivity both on the user and developer level.

Jay Stelly also adds that “Given how important user generated content is becoming, Source 2 is designed not for just the professional developer, but enabling gamers themselves to participate in the creation and development of their favorite games,” meaning fans will be given more access to produce modifications for Valve’s games.
