The SNK fighting game is back and we will be getting it a few days before Japan does.

SNK’s King of Fighters is making a return with The King of Fighters XIV. Now featuring 3D character models, which is a big leap from its original 2D sprite models but will still maintain the 2D gameplay and system. This also marks a new chapter to the franchise as it will be introducing a brand new saga to the long-running fighting game franchise.

From 50 fighters revealed be in the roster, majority of the fan favorites will be returning, as well as some new faces like Shun’ei who will play a big role in the latest chapter’s story and Nakoruru from Samurai Showdown, who makes her debut to the King of Fighters.

• Mexico Team: Ramon, Angel, King of Dinosaurs
• Another World Team: Nakoruru, Mui Mui, Love Heart
• Villains Team: Xanadu, Chang Koehan, Choi Bounge
• K’ Team: K’, Kula Diamond, Maxima
• Ikari Team: Ralph Jones, Clark Still, Leona Heidern
• South Town Team: Geese Howard, Billy Kane, Hein

The classic systems such as Climax Cancel which allows players to execute a special move three times will return as well as the Max Mode that unlocks new EX Moves, and then there are new features such as the Rush feature; which players can mash a single button to perform combos. Its game modes will feature Story mode, Party Battle that lets you compete 3-on-3 battles with other friends online, Online Training and VS mode.

The King of Fighters XIV will be available only for the PS4 on August 23, that is two days ahead of Japan’s release. The Day One edition includes a Steelbook and a classic costume Kyo Kusanagi DLC.
