Legend of Zelda: BOTW wins The Game Awards Game of the Year

Because of course it did.

For the first time since the inception of the award giving body that is the The Game Awards,  Nintendo bags the Game of the Year recognition for its newest title, Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Chosen by a pool of 51 global media outlets, influencers, and fans, Breath of the Wild manages to win over some strong contenders, Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5 and as well as Nintendo’s other recently released title, Super Mario Odyssey, and oh, there’s PUBG too.

Breath of the Wild was unveiled back in 2013 with the official trailer previewed in E3 2016. The title was originally planned as a Wii U exclusive before Nintendo revealed their plans for the Switch and was finally released a a launch title for their new hybrid console.

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild‘s development was lead by the tandem of producer Eiji Anonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi who have both worked on other Zelda titles with the main character designs done by Satoru Takizawa. Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo’s new titles to receive a very high critical acclaim with some critics even hailing it as one of the best games of all time.
