Definitive edition releases are on its way.

The new generation of gaming fans who might not be able to fully understand just what the buzz is about with Shenmue 3 will soon be able to catch up as SEGA also plans to bring Shenmue 1 and 2 to the current generation of video game platforms.

First published for the Dreamcast back in 1999, Shenmue is an action-adventure series created by Yu Suzuki and follows the tale of Ryo Hazuki as he investigates the mystery behind his father murder over certain artifacts. Ryo, who is controlled by the player, conducts a series of investigations which leads him from Japan to Hong Kong, in hopes to track down his father’s murderers and uncovers more artifacts over the course of the series. The Shenmue series was widely acclaimed for being one of the first to utilize the “open world” mechanic and, during its time, for giving a more “realistic” approach to graphics and providing various in-game experiences.

The Definitive release will include fully scalable resolutions although we doubt a full overhaul of the graphics, updated UI, and choice of classic and modern control schemes. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will also come with physical disc copies whereas the PC will most likely be available through digital download. The Shenmue 1 and 2 Definitive Edition release will be available later this year, and most probably will be released before Shenmue 3.
