Furry Pinas returns for another year as it continues to establish itself as Asia’s biggest Furry convention

Say hello to your furry friends.

The past year or so has been a blast for niche conventions as we witness certain subcultures and interests go on the rise with its fans becoming more vocal and active in the general Pop Culture community. One of such conventions was Furry Pinas, perhaps one of the first of its kind in the country (do correct us if we’re wrong by the way), and is currently hailed as the biggest Furry Convention in Asia with over thousands in attendance and has gained the interest of not just the local, but also the international Furry community.

The Furry Hobby

By common definition, the Furry hobby, or the Furry fandom is composed of “enthusiasts for animal characters with human characteristics”, or anthropomorphic¬† animal characters with human-like or human features. The history of the fandom, by popular account, can be traced back to the sci-fi conventions of the 80s, when various caricatures and novels depicted anthropomorphic animal characters. Members of the Furry community often have their “fursona” or their depiction of their chosen anthropomorphic avatar which they showcase through their online profiles, or through other mediums such as cosplaying or wearing costumes.

Furry Pinas 2019

After their success in their public event last year, Furry Pinas returns this year to help celebrate the Furry fandom in this side of the globe, offering a home for fellow Filipino furry friends and fursonas while at the same time inviting the public to help celebrate the niche. Much like last year, this year’s event will aim to host Panel Talks, Contests, Talent showcases, a serving of games, and of course, cool merch! Furry Pinas 2019 will be held this coming June 8-9, 2019 at the Bayanihan Center, Pioneer St. Kapitolyo Pasig City, tickets are on sale starting at PHP 180, for more information, you can visit the official Furry Pinas website.
