Nothing in this world stands still, and that is particularly the case when it comes to video game characters. The most popular of them branch away from purely the gaming world and try their luck in movies, casino games and even music. But, how have the most popular gaming characters fared when they have moved out of their safety zone?

Lara Croft

There aren’t many more significant gaming characters around than Lara Croft. She also holds various world records. She first rose to fame in the video game franchise ‘Tomb Raider’. Her character was a smart archaeologist that ventured into ancient tombs and dangerous ruins around the world. She’s highly intelligent and athletic, and the first released game was a roaring success. The most recent Lara Croft release came in 2018 and was titled ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider’.

She is one of the most important gaming characters in pop culture and has been a positive role model for young girls. Away from video games, she has been portrayed in movies by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. She also has a road named after her in Derby, United Kingdom. Furthermore, she is one of many video game characters that have transitioned into casinos. You can try playing at the casino games involving gaming characters here.

One of the biggest cultural phenomenons in the world over the past 20 years has been Pokémon. They started as video games on the GameBoy, with the initial releases in 1996 being ‘Pokémon Red’ and ‘Pokémon Blue’. The Japanese creator Satoshi Tajiri came up with the concept in 1995. The player controls the trainer, as they aim to catch the wild animals with Pokeballs. You can also opt to battle, and reach the Pokémon League to become the Pokémon Master.

The success of these games was unparallel and put it on its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing media franchises in the world. In total, over 300 million games have been sold across 76 titles. The series entered a new generation in 2016 with the release of Pokémon Go. The franchise has achieved success elsewhere with a hugely popular television show, which also resulted in numerous films. One of which was a live-action movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, which was released in 2019 titled ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’. There is also a hugely popular trading card game.

Assassin’s Creed

This third-person perspective game has become a worldwide phenomenon. The action-adventure game was created by Patrice Desilets, Corey May and Jade Raymond. It follows the story of Assassin’s who battle for peace and free will against the Templars who want order contained through control. The entire series features various science fiction and historical fiction throughout which are intertwined with real-world figures and events.

It is one of the highest-selling video game franchises of all-time. The first release came in 2007 titled ‘Assassin’s Creed’, and the most recent version came in 2018, and that was titled ‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’. It has achieved success away from the video game scene through a successful comic book series and a television show. There was also a 2016 film released titled ‘Assassin’s Creed’, and it starred Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Irons and Michael K. Williams.
