At the time of quarantine, Esports becomes the only Sport.
With the proposed “new normal” adjustment which includes a halt on most sporting activities, sports programming is taking a turn to digital and has made major moves towards Esports in various ways. Although they are not really new into the said venture, ABS-CBN Sports unveiled something major just recently as they announce that they will be broadcasting the remaining weeks of the 5th season of the Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines, or MPL PH, on their channel.
Previously put on halt with the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, MPL PH is one of the biggest Electronic Sports pro leagues happening today with its online viewership reaching tens to hundreds of thousand viewers on Facebook Gaming. The regular season, which is now on its 5th installment, will feature what is considered as the 10 best Mobile Legends:Bang Bang professional teams with the season champion to take home the lion’s share of the overall prize pool of USD 100,000.
MPL PH Season 5 was originally set to culminate on April 5, 2020, however, the league had to be put on halt with the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, after weeks of being put on hold, the pro league is set to resume this May 1, 2020, kicking off week 4 of its 6-week regular season schedule with the remaining matches to go live on TV via ABS-CBN Sports and Action starting at 6:30 PM.
