The Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit 2022 (ESGS 2022) held a press conference last Oct 22, 2022 at the Globe HQ in BGC, Taguig. They presented two of their more prominent presenters for the upcoming 3-day gaming event starting this October 28. These two would be representatives from Globe and Riot Games.

Globe, who has previously taken part in CONQuest was impressed with the turnout for that event and saw that doing the same for ESGS 2022 was the ideal next step for their gaming initiatives for the professional, collegiate, and especially for the grass-roots level. Globe’s Get Entertained Tribe Head Rina Azcuña-Siongco said that they found to believe that the platform would be perfect for featuring the new services that they are propagating, particularly for Global Gamer Grounds which they hinted at building a new ecosystem for players that are looking for Play-to-Earn avenues. Rina also mentioned that since this is also the first of the said event since the pandemic, everyone is itching to go to the event, so Globe is very excited for the upcoming weekend.

Riot Games went straight to listing what they intend to feature for the event itself. Boasting that they will have a huge display for their booth area, which will include several activities for con-goers to enjoy. Including mini-games to play, talks to attend, feature segments for talents from Valorant, matches between professional players and cosplay competitions.

Present media constantly tried to get more exciting news from the speakers, like the possibility of Globe going into esports, any juicy updates for new content and IPs from Riot Games, and finally more specialized events from Gariath Concepts.

Riot Games’ Country Manager Joel de Guzman confirmed that they are working on new content and that they already have a specified ‘pillar’ within their organization for ‘Entertainment.’ Suggesting that they are working with a lot more than just games. This would line up clearly with their already released projects like the KDA idol group and the hit animation series, Arcane. Joel did not go further, but advised fans to ‘watch this space.’ One thing that he did confirm is that they’re planning to grow more and more in Southeast Asia, with monthly events hyper-focused on local scenes, including the Philippines.

Gariath Concept’s CEO Richard Brojan carried a similar tone when asked about making smaller events. Not saying anything concrete but promised that there are some in the works. He was also asked what measures they will be taking to ensure the safety of the event due to certain incidents during other conventions this year. Richard responded that they are taking this seriously in making events safe and will be banning individuals that are linked to harassment and unsavory behavior that could cause harm to anyone inside the event.

Reimaru Files has a discussion about the harassment in conventions from their RF Talk episode on Fanservice and NSFW in conventions.

ESGS 2022 is one of the largest gaming events in Southeast Asia, which started back in 2014. Hosting a platform for gaming enthusiasts and industry figures, big and small to interact and feature new and developing projects that they want to show the world. This event has also hosted several esports tournaments and also includes new developments and trends within the scene. This year, SEGA will also participate with its own unique games and products to show off, along with other game publishers such as HoYoverse for Genshin Impact and Tencent for Tower of Fantasy and PUBG Mobile.
