The Philippine Collegiate Championship (PCC) is set to revolutionize the academic landscape in esports and gaming for students across the nation as more details on the platform was revealed during the press conference last May 23 at the High Grounds Café in Quezon City.
Organized by the Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE), the upcoming season of PCC promises to be a nationwide spectacle, featuring a diverse array of schools competing in two major tournaments. The Regional Cup, an online tournament, invites students to represent their institutions in each major region: NCR, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, while the National League will showcase the top four teams from each region with the last team standing earning the prestigious title of the country’s best esports collegiate team. The PCC has selected Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Call of Duty Mobile as the headline games for this season.
Stanley Lao, Chief Executive Officer of the Collegiate Center for Esports, has stated: “Our mission is to expand the horizons of our students within the esports scene. As the next generation of esports athletes and professionals, we are committed to providing them with the essential tools and knowledge to excel, so they may forge ahead in the ever-growing industry.”
In addition to the tournaments, the PCC will host the Campus Roadshow, designed to offer students an immersive experience in the esports and gaming industry. Highlights of the roadshow include the Esports Academy, which aims to give inspiration and knowledge to students by industry leaders, offering mentorship and insights in the different fields from both the front end and backend of esports. The roadshow will also feature community tournaments, meet-and-greets, and a ton of engaging activities. CEO of strategic firm LunaTone Baro Hyun was also present at the event to show his support for the academic programs initiated for PCC.
The Regional Cup is slated to commence in June, followed by the National League in August. The Campus Roadshow will begin its tour around the country later this year.
