SPYxANYA: Operation Memories Review

The anime Spy x Family is so wonderful that everyone is excited when a new season pops up. Now there is a game adaption called Spy x Anya: Operation Memories which is a warming yet niche game primarily designed for fans of the “Spy x Family” anime.

The game revolves around Anya following her daily life and school activities while working on a unique journal. The core gameplay loop is simple, focusing on taking photos in various locations, playing mini-games, and interacting with other characters from the series.

The game is rather enjoyable in short gameplay sessions than in long sessions as it can be repetitive at some sections of the game. It is light on action and more on the slice-of-life content on how Spy x Family is, making it a low-stakes experience.

You are tasked to take pictures of Anya doing various activities across a wide range of locations, whether it is a family outing or just around the school. Each picture is graded on whether the camera is in focus, right angle, and what Anya is doing when the photo is taken.

There are a handful of minigames to start with. Every time you unlock a new destination for the family to go to, you can unlock a minigame however some minigames will be played repeatedly at the beginning. It does become a little boring if you keep playing the minigame for more than an hour in my case. The minigames catch the humor and personality of the anime.

Personally, some minigames are easy to win but some can be a bit challenging which makes the diversity of playing the minigames fun but repetitive if you keep playing for a long while. Playing the mini-games gives you points for you to purchase at the store, may it be outfits for Lloyd, Yor, and Anya.

The Spy x Anya is extremely faithful to the show in both the humor and looks, but it would require a bit of patience when it comes to the repetitiveness of some aspects of the game. It is fun to have, a different side of gameplay whenever you are burnt out on your other games, this can be a refresher and chill game to have on your list.
