Bandai just made a big announcement for their next Gundam project that will be launching next year. The new Gundam series is called Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which according to Bandai pronounced as G-Quax.

The new series will be a collaboration between Sunrise and Studio khara; the same team behind the Rebuild of Evangelion movies and the Shin Japan Heroes Universe (Shin Ultraman, Shin Godzilla, Shin Kamen Rider) films. The production team includes big names like Hideki Anno (Evangelion fame) and Yoji Enokido (FLCL, Redline, Star Driver) to write the script for the series with the director role being handled by Kazuya Tsurumaki (Rebuild of Evangelion, Diebuster). Ever wonder why the designs feel very Evangelion-esque for the GQuuuuuuX? Well, that’s because Ikuto Yamashita is the mechanical designer for the show where he had a great portfolio in designing for Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gunbuster, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Blue Submarine No. 6 and even the recently released video game Metaphor: ReFantazio. Character designs were from take, who is known for her designs with recent Pokemon games (Sun/Moon, Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet).

A theatrical release that has re-edited episodes will premiere in Japan on January 16, 2025 called Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- and will have plans to release overseas.

Here is the story summary for GQuuuuuuX taken from the official website:

Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space.

When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.

Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.

Now their world is about to enter a new era.

As for the voice actors, the initial cast has been revealed:

• Tomoyo Kurosawa (Edel from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Amiya from Arknights, Rebecca from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) will voice the main protagonist Amate Yuzuriha (MACHU)
• Yui Ishikawa (2B from NieR: Automata, Rapi from Goddess of Victory: Nikke, Violet from Violet Evergarden) will voice Nyaan
•  Shimba Tsuchiya (Oboro from Monster Hunter Rise, Epel Felmier from Disney Twisted-Wonderland) will voice Shuji Ito
