Sequence 01.Still020

Completing missions and challenges will reward you with materials and parts of mobile suits where you can customize. Creating and customizing your mobile suit is the main highlight of Gundam Breaker 2, you can mix and match different limbs from over a hundred different mobile suits that gives you a lot of different combinations that you could imagine and you can even change their color, which can even let you pick the type of paintjob you would prefer; do you prefer chrome finish? They have it, or how about matte finish and some weathered effects? They also have that option. As you progress in the game, you will be able to acquire the larger MG parts. Also, optional parts and modules can be added to your mobile suit that can enhance your attacks or provide special attacks, some example include bit funnels, NT-D mode and the Trans-Am. Low level parts can be upgraded to boost their stats to give a fair advantage in your current Build Level. Build Levels are needed to equip any powerful parts and weapons that you developed or acquired, the level can be increased by completing missions or developing/upgrading any weapons/parts.

However gathering parts and materials can be a tedious work as you need to do multiple mission runs to gather enough materials to develop and upgrade parts. The missions are also not that engaging as you will be doing the same objective to different mobile suits in different stages, making it more of a mindless grind-fest. This can be a letdown for some who would look for engaging mission objectives similar to Armored Core games. Despite having a story compared to the first game, the storyline is very generic and uninteresting, the story plot is very predictable and easy to understand despite the game being in Japanese (or Chinese to some regions).

The controls has its hits and misses. The range attacks are placed on the L1 button (L for the Vita) and pressing L2 can toggle to aim mode to manually target on enemies. The optional parts can be activated with the circle button while standard and heavy melee attacks are on the square and triangle buttons. Special attacks can be triggered by holding the R1 button (R for the Vita) and pressing the corresponding attack that was assigned from the four face buttons. The button layout is very welcome for players who are used to action games, however the auto target system is the major flaw in the game. When activated, the auto target will home to the nearest enemy visible in your field of vision, and it will stay there until you move your right stick to select a different target, selecting a different target can be somewhat unreliable especially if you need to target the right one, as the auto target will lock on in somewhat in a random order, this could messed up your target especially when you use the right stick to adjust the camera angle, it would be better if the there is a command than lets you switch to the nearest target by pressing the shoulder buttons, though this problem could be solved by deactivating the locking feature by pressing R2 (pressing the auto target icon on-screen for the Vita). An Awaken mode can be enabled by pressing L3 and R3 simultaneously when your meter is full; this gives you a powered up attacks, faster skill cool-down rate and faster mobility for a limited time.

Sequence 01.Still022

Gone was the PvP mode from the first game and was replaced with a co-op feature that you can invite up to three friends either in Ad-Hoc or online, though it may require the use of a Region 2 account (for Japanese version) and Region 3 (for the Chinese version). You will be able to share screenshots of your mobile suit creations by linking your Gundam Perfect Games online account to the PSN account, you can change the pose and background for your creation, just like what you do for your model kits when taking photos. A great addition are the free DLCs for additional content to the game which consist of new mobile suit parts and new missions, making them free was a big leap as the previous game only had paid DLCs. Cross saving is available for the two systems, which you can bring your game progress outside with your Vita.
